Palissade Collection
Launched in 2016, it may be too soon to declare HAY’s Palissade Range a ‘design classic’ but we certainly believe it will be. Designed by the Paris-based brothers, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the 16-piece collection shares the same principle geometry across furniture typologies. With a keen visual simplicity, symmetrical geometry and clean lines, Palissade creates an impression of effortless engineering with rhythm and balance, cementing its place as a much-loved range of contemporary outdoor furniture.
The pair studied design separately – Ronan at the École supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and Erwan at the École Nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy – before founding their own studio, Atelier Bouroullec, in 1998. The decades following have seen the Bouroullec brothers gain huge success and respect in the industry, consistently winning awards for their design work and their work has been published in numerous design books. Several of their lighting designs are in permanent collections across the world including MOMA in New York, Design Museum in London, Centre Pompidou and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
This outdoor furniture range was designed for HAY by the brothers in a powder coated finish or the later addition of hot-dip galvanised steel; the materials used are intended to become more beautiful over time. The collection’s versatility has helped its success, designed to integrate equally effortlessly into the natural landscape or urban setting. Palissade has proven popular in a variety of environments, from terraces and gardens to cafes, restaurants and hotels, and has become an instantly recognisable and coveted piece of contemporary outdoor furniture.
Atelier Bouroullec’s work encompasses a wide range from furniture and tableware, to rugs, textiles and art objects – offering new perspectives of materiality and purpose. The studio has produced designs for companies including Ligne Roset, Habitat, Vitra and Magis,
